Our Mission: Create Opportunities for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and their Families to Participate Fully in the Community

Quality Living Options

Quality Living Options (QLO) is a division of Developmental Disabilities Resource Center that provides residential services for adults with developmental disabilities in three types of settings.

  • Group homes
  • Apartment settings
  • Host Homes

QLO operates a total of seven group homes in Jefferson County. Homes are located in Arvada, Lakewood, Westminster, and Wheat Ridge. Each home is staffed twenty-four hours per day. Additionally, staffing is provided based on the needs of the individuals that live in each home. Overnight staffing may be provided by either awake staff or asleep staff depending on the needs of the individuals. Each program is overseen by a Lead Counselor who is responsible for the day to day operation of the home. Each Lead Counselor is supervised by a Program Manager who holds a degree in a related field as well as extensive experience providing supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. All group home programs are licensed by the Colorado Department of Health and Environment.

QLO operates a total of three apartments for individuals who have mastered basic life skills and require only minimal support living on their own within the community. Apartment settings are primarily located in Jefferson County. In addition, we operate one apartment setting in Summit County.

QLO contracts with a number of Host Home Providers throughout Jefferson, Denver, Adams and Douglas counties. Host Home settings work best for individuals who wish to live in a family-like or smaller setting. Host Home Providers are independent contractors; however, contract requirements stipulate they conform to regulatory guidelines identified by the Division for Developmental Disabilities and quality standards established by QLO. Compliance is ensured via monitoring visits by QLO management, nursing and administrative staff.

All individuals living in QLO residential settings are provided with supports ranging from assistance with money management, assistance with personal care and household management and emotional and behavioral support. All individuals are provided with opportunities to pursue recreational and leisure activities in their communities and transportation is provided to activities and appointments. Most individuals attend day programs or work at paid jobs in the community. Each person is assigned a nurse who works with program staff or host home providers to ensure each individual's medical and dental needs are monitored and met.

Mental health issues affect some people with developmental disabilities. QLO ensures that individual's mental health needs are met either through the use of the DDRC Behavioral Health Team or through Jefferson Center for Mental Health. Treatment options have traditionally included medication and behavior therapy. Some people have found newer alternatives like cognitive therapy, cognitive/behavior therapy, and art and music therapy beneficial. QLO also offers individual and group counseling for individuals who could benefit from mental health supports.
